Pleased to say I made some progress yesterday. Wasn’t really planning to but had a few minutes to spare at practice and joined Liana and Lesley in a mini-lesson with Rory. He managed to show me how to put in the high-hat in my “one” reggae beat (been stuck on it for 5 or 6 years). I also learnt the basic soca rhythm (no rolls or crashes) which is actually easier than the reggae one I learnt previously. Wasn’t doing too too bad until I had to put in the high hat. That took major concentration. Whew! Gonna practice at home with my drumsticks. Hopefully I can keep it up so I get to a competent level.
